About George S May International Company
Born to a family farm, George S May explored sales before learning the mechanics of business at his friend’s farm machinery manufacturing company. This early career might have looked ordinary at the time, but it prepared may for his future.
By the early twenties, with a family of his own to support, George S May canvassed the Chicago area looking for work. He had the skills and know-how to solve business problems; he just had to make the world aware of it. Finally, his persistence paid off when the Chicago Flexible Shaft Company hired his consulting services. This gave George S May everything he needed to found his own firm, the George S May Company. This was in 1925.
George S May’s other great passion was promoting the sport of golf. He is today listed as one of Golf magazine's 100 Heroes of American Golf. George S May staged a number of PGA tournaments at his country club, the Tam O' Shanter, throughout the 1940s and 1950s.
By the time of his death in nineteen sixty two, George S May had accomplished much. He had made golf popular and all but invented management consulting.
